Honda Valkyrie Carburetor Service Frequently asked questions

Carbs are completely disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned, and reassembled after verifying passages were clear.
New parts – 156 total:
• All O-rings and gaskets
• K&L Bowl Needle Valves
• Bowl screws
• Slow and main jets. 35/100 (stock)
• Main needles
• Pilot screws, springs, washers
• Fuel Lines and clamps
• Air Cut Valve screws and tubing
• Crossover arm bearings and cotter pins
• Balance adjusting (flyaway!) springs as needed.
Testing Done:
• Air Cut Valves tested and verified working.
• Vacuum test bowl gaskets and drain screw O-rings seal.
• Balance (sync) carbs on the test engine with Digi Sync.
• Tune on test engine.
What is Digi Sync service?
Digi Sync service is installing your carbs on my Valkyrie test engine, and using the Digi Sync tool to balance your carbs.
• The six carburetors must be balanced, or the engine loses horsepower and fuel economy.
• Digi Sync is an electronic 6 channel digital peaking manometer.
• With it, I can see all 6 vacuum signals at once and balance your carbs perfectly.
• Digi Sync is absolutely the best tool for balancing your carbs.
COLORTUNE uses a spark plug with a window into the combustion chamber.
• With the carbs mounted on the test engine, I monitor the color of the combustion with the Colortune plug and adjust the carb pilot screw to get an optimal combustion mixture.
• If the combustion is too lean it becomes light blue, and too rich becomes yellow.
• Since we have six cylinders, each with a dedicated carb, I repeat the test for each cylinder.

• Front cross brace cleaned and repainted if needed.
• Carbs reassembled, put on the test engine, balanced and tuned.
• Balance and tuning verified with Digi Sync and Colortune.

If something is broken in your carbs, I will let you know.
If there is a need for extra money to cover unexpected costs (such as a failed air cutoff valve), we will deal with that separately.
It is rare, but if it happens. There is no way to know until I get them apart and test them.
Each grill is custom hand made in the US, Southport, NC.
It is constructed from architectural 6063 aluminum ½ inch bar stock and ¼ aluminum rods, and polished to a high shine.
6063 aluminum is more corrosion resistant. 6063 is primarily used for exterior railings, decorative trim, and door frames. It works out well for our radiator grill.
The grill is designed to mount on top of the stock radiator screen using the same mounting holes.
No modifications to your bike are required.
Stainless steel cap screws and washers for mounting are included.

The history of the grill.
The Blue and gold bike pictured with the grill is a 98 tourer that started out black. It was in rough shape when I bought it. Restoring it has been a labor of love.
I have had 2 Valkyries, and my sons, and sons in law all ride them. I think Valkyries are one of the most iconic bikes ever built.
Rivco used to make a 9 bar grill, but I couldn’t find one when I wanted it so I built the first grill for this bike, then family and friends had interest, so I decided to build some for other Valkyrie owners.
I am trying to keep them reasonably priced and still get some return for the large amount of effort that goes into one of these.
I hope you enjoy having it on your bike. Think of me the next time someone rolls down their window at a stop light and says “Wow, what kind of bike is that?”
Will my 7 Bar radiator grill tarnish?
The 6063 aluminum is resistant to tarnishing, and the polish also has a coating in it to preserve the shine.
When the grill leaves here it is shined to a high gloss. If you incurred any scuffs or scratches during installation, any good metal polish will shine it back up.
Use a microfiber rag, NOT paper towels. Paper is abrasive and will dull the finish.
When riding, bugs etc. will hit it. If the five-foot rule isn’t working for you, (standing back 5 feet and viewing it), polish it as above. ;-)

Hi, I’m David Morgan. I created Valkyrie Carbs and Custom. I have 48 years of technical experience between the US Navy and Nuclear Power.
I spent 4 years in the United States Navy as a technician on attack aircraft weapon systems, com/nav, and RADAR systems.
After the Navy, I did an apprenticeship as an Instrument and Control Technician at a Nuclear Power plant, and worked as a technician in nuclear power plants for the next 23 years.
Following those 27 years as a technician, I became an instructor. For the next 19 years I trained the technicians who calibrate and maintain nuclear plant control systems.
Along the way, I also earned a Master’s degree in Theology.
I’ve been married for 48 years. We raised 4 kids. My 2 sons, and both sons in law also ride Valkyries.
I rode scooters and dirt bikes as a kid, and started riding street motorcycles in 1982. I had a 1982 Yamaha 650 Maxim, then a 1983 Honda Goldwing. I bought my first Valkyrie in 2000, a black standard, and became hooked on the iconic bike that was called the “Cruiser of the Decade.”
I currently have a 1998 Valkyrie Tourer that had been neglected in the coastal North Carolina area. I restored the bike from the ground up, and plan to keep it as long as I can ride.
I also have a 1999 Valkyrie Interstate Trike. The trike was owned by Bob Smith, Attic Rat, and he fixed it up with his special magic. He then sold it to Danny McMillin to extend Danny's riding when he was reaching the end of his life. When Danny passed, my sons arranged to get the trike for me for Father's day. It is a very special machine to me as I no longer can ride my Tourer. I always keep the rear pegs down in case Danny or any other of our fallen friends care to ride.
I got into rebuilding carbs because my carb fuel rails began leaking after a winter break, so I learned how to rebuild carburetors. Then a half dozen family members and friends needed carb work. Soon people wanted to pay to have it done, so Valkyrie Carbs and Custom was born.
I wanted a Rivco 9 bar radiator grill, but could not find one to buy, so I created the 7 bar grill using 6063 aluminum polished to a high shine.
We are now focusing on producing custom parts that are similar to parts that have become unobtainable at reasonable prices. We want the Valkyrie community to still have access to good custom parts at reasonable prices.
